An international campus

lunch at Ellerslie Hall

Britain and beyond

The University prides itself on being an international university that is distinctly British.

There's an increasing international atmosphere at the University of Leeds. Here are a few of our initiatives.

Global community

In recent years, the University has developed a thriving social life for our students from across the world. Our popular Global Community connects international students through events like:

  • day trips to some of the UK's top destinations
  • the Global Café, a weekly offering of free tea, coffee, biscuits and friendly chats in the LUU lounge
  • an event designed to bring all students together through sport
  • the Cultural Festival, an action-packed week that celebrates cultures through performance

Award winning Union

LUU is the winner of an award for Internationalised Students’ Union of the year, given by the National Union of Students. The award recognise Unions that go the ‘extra mile in improving the lives of international students studying in the UK'.

The Refectory

Remember Refectory food? Things have changed alot in the past few years, with a wok bar and a choice of international street food available daily. This is a popular area at lunchtime, with many UK students joining the queue. See a menu here

Intercultural Ambassadors Programme

The University's 40 student ambassadors coordinate fun activities for students from around the world. Recently they've organised an international pub quiz and a global storytelling workshop.

Ellerslie Global Residence

Right on campus, there's a new hall for international students to live together with UK students. Ellerslie Global Residence will be an intercultural home housing half UK and half international students who will broaden their horizons, develop cross-cultural skills and build a global network of friends. See it here
